New Term. New Routine. Move Different.
A new term usually means a lot of change.
New places. New people. New timetable. Maybe even a new city.
It’s also a pretty good time to rethink your routine.
For students especially, getting into training can be one of the easiest ways to build some structure into a week that otherwise feels completely new. But you don’t need a whole new wardrobe to do it.
You just need gear that works.
Start with how you actually move
The best gymwear isn’t necessarily the piece everyone is talking about on TikTok or the newest colour to drop.
It’s the stuff you actually want to put on when you’re heading out to train.
Think about what your week really looks like.
Maybe you’re lifting three times a week. Maybe you run. Maybe you play sport. Maybe your training is a mixture of the gym, walking around campus and whatever else your new timetable throws at you.
Your clothes should be able to keep up.
A good pair of shorts should stay comfortable through squats, machines and everything in between. A training tee should let you move without constantly thinking about how it fits. A hoodie should work on the way to the gym just as easily as it does on the way home.
Simple.
You don’t need a different outfit for every workout
Starting a new routine doesn’t mean starting a completely new wardrobe.
In fact, we’d argue the opposite.
Build a small rotation of pieces that work together. A few tees. A pair of shorts you genuinely like training in. A hoodie or sweatshirt for travelling and warming up. Then mix and match.
The aim isn’t to have more.
It’s to get more out of what you already have.
That also makes getting ready for a 7am lecture and getting ready for a 7pm gym session considerably easier.
Make your gymwear work outside the gym
University life doesn’t always happen in neat little boxes.
You might leave your accommodation for the gym and end up walking across the city, grabbing coffee, heading to class or meeting friends.
That’s why we like gymwear that doesn’t feel completely out of place once you’re outside the gym.
A good tee can be training gear one minute and part of an everyday outfit the next. A hoodie can handle the journey to the gym, the warm-up and the rest of the day.
Your wardrobe gets more useful when your clothes aren’t restricted to one setting.
Choose the fit, not just the size
The number on the label isn’t the most important thing.
How the garment feels when you move is.
Waistbands should stay where they’re supposed to. Tops should give your shoulders and arms room to move. Shorts should feel secure without becoming restrictive.
And if you’re between sizes, think about how you actually want the piece to fit.
A slightly more relaxed tee might be perfect for everyday wear. A closer fit might work better when you’re training.
There isn’t one correct fit.
There’s the fit that works for you.
Don’t buy something just because it’s trending
Trends come and go.
Your gym bag doesn’t need to.
Before buying something, ask yourself a few questions:
- Will I actually wear it?
- Does it work with what I already own?
- Will I still want to wear it six months from now?
- Does it suit the way I train?
That last one matters more than whatever happens to be trending this week.
We’re big believers in buying fewer things that get worn more often.
It’s one of the reasons made-to-order production is part of LOVEGYM’s approach. Producing with demand in mind helps avoid unnecessary overproduction and means we’re not simply making more clothing for the sake of making more clothing.
Your new-term gymwear checklist
Starting a new routine? Keep it simple.
- One or two reliable training tees
- A pair of shorts or bottoms you can actually train in
- A hoodie or outer layer for getting to and from the gym
- Pieces that work together rather than one-off outfits
- Clothes you can wear beyond a single workout
- Gear that feels good when you move
- A wardrobe built around what you actually wear, not what’s trending
You don’t need to have everything figured out on day one.
Your routine will change.
Your timetable will change.
Your training will change.
Your gymwear should be able to change with you.
Move different
A new term is a chance to do things a little differently.
Not because you need to completely reinvent yourself.
Just because you’ve got a new routine to build.
Whether you’re heading to the gym between lectures, training after work, walking across Belfast or finding your feet in a new city, wear something that works for how you actually move.
MOVE DIFFERENT.
That’s the idea.
Not more clothes.
Not more hype.
Just better choices for the way you live and move.
